Avocados, mangos, lychees, custard apples…The raising of tropical fruits and vegetables is one of the chief economic activities in Nerja and its surrounding area. This region in the east of the Costa del Sol is known as the Axarquía.
Other fruits that we can find in the countryside of Nerja are longans, papayas and mangos. Students love them. Moreover, the School has an avocado tree and a banana tree in its own garden.
At Nerja, if we look up to the mountains, in the inland, we can find many fields with tropical fruits that are raised by the local farmers, who mainly sell them to the European market.In fact, the region of the Axarquía is the most important in Europa regarding the exportation of these kinds of fruits. There are a lot of classroom activities related to photography in a Spanish Course like, for example, this picture of El Salón Beach in Nerja. By using photographies, this week our students are practising oral presentations and also the use of internet in lessons, with pictures of Nerja that have an emotional meaning for them. Nerja organiza multitud de eventos relacionados con la Navidad durante el mes de diciembre y enero. La fiesta más importante se producirá la noche del 31 de diciembre. La última noche del año, la mayoría de los residentes en Nerja y también sus visitantes se reunirán en el Balcón de Europa, junto a la Iglesia de El Salvador, para celebrar el fin de año. Allí se repartirá cava y uvas de la suerte a todos los asistentes. A partir de las doce de la noche, la fiesta está asegurada con un espectáculo de fuegos artificiales y con actuaciones musicales en directo.
