Why studying in Nerja? ( Part 2/2)

Nerja meets a number of conditions that make it a very suitable place to study Spanish and, at the same time, enjoy the experience of immersion in the Spanish culture and way of life. Besides the town’s quiet and relaxed atmosphere and the human gentleness of its inhabitants, Nerja stands out because of its mild weather all year long, its exquisite cookery and perfect location as a departure point for many interesting excursions.

Nerja has got one of the best climates ofSpainall year long. It does not rain too much and temperatures are mild along winter. In addition to this, during summer and spring excellent weather allows students to enjoy the various town beaches when they finish their lessons. There they can relax, do sports and swim till night comes.

For those who love ski and snow, Sierra Nevada, inGranada, just about an hour away, has some of the best ski slopes ofSpain.

Gastronomy is an essential part of Spanish character. Mediterranean cookery, defined by the importance given to fruits and vegetables and by the prominence of olive oil, is known world-wide thanks to its healthy and nutritional richness. In Nerja there are many bars and restaurants where visitors are always welcome with a familiar treatment and local, always fresh products. Fried fish, grilled chorizo, aubergines in cane sugar and the region’s sweet wine are just some examples of Spanish people’s passion for good cookery.

Besides, it must be stood up the fact that Nerja is located half way to a number of historical cities and natural pathways of interest. From Nerja, we can visit Málaga,Granadaand Córdoba, all of them beautiful cities with great History and architectural richness. By bus, you can get to Málaga in an hour, toGranadain an hour and a half and to Córdoba in two hours.

Even closer, just ten minutes away by bus, we can visit Frigiliana, a small village of outstanding beauty and typical Andalusian architecture, in which white colour covers all the houses’ walls. This village is also a meeting point of the three old different cultures -Christians, Arabs and Jews- that, in the past, coexisted around here. Their artistic and architectural marks can still be seen in the village’s streets.

Natural pathways make the visitor’s leisure possibilities even wider. Nerja is the starting point of a large number of hiking pathways where we can enjoy nature in its most pure state, going through the mountains (Sierra de Almijara) located around the Andalusian town.
